Description
Our team successfully took 30th place out of over 100 international teams at our first participation in the “DBF 2019 – Design, Build and Fly Competition” in Arizona, USA.
What Were The Rules Of The Competition?
- Successful takeoff on a 3m long ramp with a 5-degree gradient.
- Installing folding wings.
- Length measurement of max. 60cm (from the nose to the rearmost wheel).
- When folded, the model is to be pushed through a 90cm wide and 60cm high tunnel.
- Automatic start preparation via a switch (automatically unfolds and locks).
- No use of Lithium-ion and Lithium-polymer batteries allowed.
- Successfully passing the so-called “ wingtip test” (This means the model must withstand being lifted at both wingtips).
- The lift must be generated via the wings (higher density than air).
What Were The Missions and What Were Points Awarded For?
- Ground mission (max. 1 point): The radar and payloads should be attached to the model as quickly as possible.
- Flight mission (1 point): The flying object should take off and complete its circuits.
- Flight mission (max. 2 points): A radar (in this case only a dummy) should be placed on the model and switched on and off during the flight.
- Flight mission (2 points plus the number of payloads dropped ): As many payloads as possible should be dropped in a 10-minute flight window . Only one payload may be dropped per circuit. These must be attached under the wing and fuselage.
In addition, a “Design Report” is submitted, which can bring in up to 100 points. The following applies to the total score: GP = Design Report points x sum of all four missions.
