What is IMAV 2025?
The International Micro Air Vehicle Conference is a yearly scientific conference and drones competition held in a different host city every time - in 2025 it will be held in Mexico City. The event features a seperate indoors and outdoors event, with different mission requirements and design challenges. ADDI has competed in this event in 2019, 2023 and 2024, winning thrid place in the indoors comptition in 2019. As of this year no team has won the indoors competition on the highest autonomy classification - “fully autonomous, no pilot intervention”.
Taking autonomy to the next level
The goal of this years IMAV Team is to build on our previous experience and take a shot at fully autonomous operations. That means that assides from pushing the “Liftoff”-Button our pilot will not be allowed to give any flight input and all sensor analysis and navigation tasks have to be performed without external human intervention all the way back to a safe landing.
Critical to a sucessful autonomous flight is having all subsystem components work reliably and automatically catching operational deviations before a safety interrupt must be called. For this our software has to be tested rigerously both in simulated and real flight, especially under adverse conditions.
Build for the future
Achieving such an ambitious goal is a multi-year process, so we take great care in building processes and solutions that last. An eye for quality, maintainability and documentation not only allows for smoother teamwork within IMAV 2025 but ensures that all future projects also benefit from our work.
